Addition: 

#Each children takes a tray.
#The directress states a different numeral for each and they find the appropriate small numeral cards and the quantity, placing the cards on top of the respective quantity.

#When all the quantities are on the cloth, the directress gathers up the cloth, mixing all the quantities together.
#The cloth is opened and the materials are sorted.
#The child begins with units counting the quantity and bringing the large numeral card.
#When all has been counted, the child arranges the cards and reads the quantity that the combination has produced.
#Pointing to small numeral cards the directress says: 'The children brought these small quantities.
#When we put them together we made this large quantity." (indicating the large numeral cards which is seperated from the addends by the two pieces of yarn) 'We have done addition.'
#The numerals are arranged in a column.

Subtraction:

#Initially the directress may play the "Rich Man, Poor Man" game to demonstrate the concept of "taking away."
#The directress has a large quantity from which several children take away small quantities until there is nothing left.
#The purpose of this game is to make the impression of taking away and nothing remaining.
#The child has an empty tray.
#The directress has a large quantity on her tray.
#The quantity is counted beginning with the units and large numeral cards are placed on the quantities.
#The child arranges these cards and reads the numeral.
#Offering the child some of this large quantity, the directress chooses some small numeral cards.
#The child arranges these cards and reads what shall be taken away.
#The directress counts out this quantity from what is on the tray, beginning with units. What is left?
#This quantity is counted and small numeral cards placed on the quantities, arranged and read.
#What remains on the tray is the result of subtraction. "When we take away, we are subtracting".

Multiplication:

Division:

#Directress invites the child to build the 2 sets of Colored Beads into triangles.
#Then directress says, "Now we are going to make a snake with the colored beads" and she takes any of the colored beads at random and starts to lay out a snake..
#Then the Directress explain to the child that "we are going to change the Colored Snake to a Golden Snake, using the Golden Ten Bead Bars"
#The Directress begins to count to 10. If the colored Bead bars are 4,2,8,...beads.
#The tenth Bead will be reached on the fourth bead of the Eight Bead Bar, leaving 4 over.
#The Directress puts a marker in place at the end o the tenth bead, removes the 4,2 and 8 bead bars and places them on the lids.
#She then replaces them with one golden Ten bead Bar and a 4 from the Black and White Bead Bars.
#Directress then proceeds to count the next 10, starting from the Black and White Beads.
#The whole idea is to replace every ten bead with a Golden Ten Bead Bar and the remainder units with the Black and White Bead Bars.
#At the final stage, the exercise would have been carried out correctly if the whole snake has turned golden.
#If not, that means there was an error that had occurred in the process of the exercise.
#When the above exercise has completed, the Directress then proceeds to this exercise, saying "Now we check to make sure all the numbers add up to 10".

#The Directress takes a Nine Bead Bar, says "This is nine, we need one more to make ten" and she takes a One Bead Bar, place them together next to the first Golden Ten Bead Bar.
