Directress invites the children to take out the Large and Small Number Cards from the shelf and to lay out the cards on the floor mat.</li><li>The Directress sets up the 'Bank' and lays out the Operational Mat on a separate table.</li><li>The Directress sets a division question that involves changing and remainder, e.g. 3173/2.</li><li>Carry out the exercise as Division -With Changing. The child will come to th end where he will find that he is unable to divide equally because there is only 1 unit left on the mat.</li><li>Directress will then have to explain to the children that there will be situations where there is not enough to be divided equally and this is what we call 'remainder'. Directress shows how to put this statement down on paper. 3173/2 = 1586 r. 1</li></ol><br />
