Six pink reading strips, each with a picture and a phrase. The words are three-letter phonic words and some sight words. There are no capitals.
<h3>Preparation</h3>
Example phrases:<br />
"the tin jet", "the wet pup", "the bad fox", "the red hen", "a hot dog", "a bad leg", "a big wig", "a fat cat", "in the sun", "in the box", "in the tub", "in the pen", "on a log", "on a bed", "on a mat", "on a box".<br />

This is an individual presentation to be carried out on the table. (Note: full work cycle to be observed)
<h3>Presentation</h3>
<ol>
<li>The Directress selects one strip and places it in front of the child. She points to the first word and reminds the child about the sight word he has done. Encourage the child to read the word as you point to the the words in the phrase one by one. Reread the whole phrase for fluency and meaning.</li>
<li>The child may read another strip if he wants to.</li>

If the child does not recognize a word, encourage the child to say the individual letter sounds, to blend the sounds and read the word. Encourage the child to reread the phrase for fluency and meaning. The child usually corrects his own mistakes because he never expected to read a word that cannot be sounded phonetically except for sight words.<br />
<h3>Purpose</h3>
<ul>
<li>Practice reading a series of words for meaning.</li>
<li>Encourage left to right directionality.</li>
<li>Develop reading fluency.</li>
<li>Practice reading sight words.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Variation</h3>
Leave a variety of Phrase strips on the shelf. Place it separately on the shelf to attract the children to it. Do not place them in a stack on the shelf. Change it frequently.<br />
