Materials
- Two flaps of cloth with two kinds of Velcro attachment on a wooden frame.
- The first is the pull-up type where you would find on items like bags, overall fastener, etc.
- The other type of Velcro is the pull-up, slip-out type that is normally found on shoes.
Preparation
This is an individual presentation.
Presentation
- Show the child how to undo the Velcro.
- For the first kind of Velcro, the pull-up type.
- Starting from the top, place the right hand on the right side of the flap near the Velcro attachment.
- Pull up the left side flap with the thumb and index finger of the left hand holding the edges of the left side flap.
- Repeat for the next Velcro attachment.
- Fold back the two flaps so as to clearly demonstrate to the child that the function of the Velcro's is to hold two pieces of cloth together.
- Directress then shows how to undo the second type of Velcro.
- Place the left hand on the left side of the flap near the Velcro attachment.
- Pull up the Velcro attachment with the thumb and index finger of the right hand.
- Repeat for the next Velcro attachment.
- Pull the strap on the left side of the flap out from the strap hole on the right side.
- Repeat for the next strap.
- Fold back the two flaps so as to clearly demonstrate to the child that the function of the Velcro's is to hold two pieces of cloth together.
- When all the Velcro's are undone, Directress shows the child how to do up the Velcro's.
- Starts from the first type of Velcro, bring the flaps together, with the left side flap on top of the right side flap.
- Press down the left side with the left hand to press the Velcro's in between.
- For the second type of Velcro, do it up by slipping the straps of the left hand side into the strap slots on the right side of the flap.
- Pull the straps through the slots and then fold down the straps so that the set of Velcro's comes together.
- Press them together.
Control Of Error
There is one set of Velcro opposite each other.
